Welcoming Dr. Adam DuVall: Transforming Lymphoma Care for Young Patients

Meet Dr. Adam DuVall

Chike Springer Foundation Scholar, assistant professor at the University of Chicago, and public health expert. His groundbreaking research uses app-based CBT to improve the social-emotional outcomes for young lymphoma patients.

All of my patients inspire my research and help direct the areas that I study.
— Adam DuVall, MD

At the Chike Springer Foundation, we are dedicated to driving meaningful change in lymphoma research and treatment. Today, we’re thrilled to announce our newest Chike Springer Foundation Scholar: Dr. Adam DuVall. His groundbreaking work epitomizes our mission to amplify the patient voice, advance innovative research, and address the unique needs of underserved communities.

A Partnership for Progress: Collaborating with the Lymphoma Research Foundation

Our partnership with the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) has been instrumental in realizing our mission. Together, we sponsor promising researchers through the Lymphoma Scientific Research Mentoring Program (LSRMP)—a pioneering two-year initiative that equips early-career hematology and oncology professionals with the skills and resources to lead transformative lymphoma research.

The LSRMP aligns with our commitment to addressing disparities in care and improving patient outcomes, making it the perfect platform to support exceptional scholars like Dr. DuVall.

Innovation in Action

Dr. DuVall’s research focuses on optimizing app-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address the emotional and social challenges faced by adolescents and young adults with lymphoma. This work is critical, as young people with cancer often experience heightened mental health challenges during and after treatment. “All of my patients inspire my research and help direct the areas that I study,” Dr. DuVall explains. By listening to his patients and incorporating their voices into his work, he is designing interventions that directly address their needs, from mental health to psychosocial outcomes.

Dr. DuVall’s academic journey is as impressive as his research focus. He earned both his medical degree and Master of Public Health from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and is now an assistant professor at the University of Chicago. His holistic approach integrates clinical expertise, public health insights, and cutting-edge technology, all aimed at improving survival rates and quality of life for young lymphoma patients.

Looking to the future, Dr. DuVall is particularly passionate about integrating patient-reported outcomes into lymphoma research. By amplifying the patient voice, he envisions a future where treatments not only extend lives but also enhance the well-being of patients when they are most vulnerable.

Advancing Our Mission: A Focus on Underserved Communities

Dr. DuVall’s groundbreaking work aligns seamlessly with the Chike Springer Foundation’s unwavering commitment to promoting health equity in cancer research. At the heart of our mission is a focus on addressing the disparities faced by underserved populations, including adolescents and young adults (AYAs), people of color, and Veterans. These groups often experience barriers to care, from lack of representation in clinical research to insufficient resources for mental and emotional support during treatment.

Adolescents and young adults with cancer are among the most overlooked demographics in oncology. They often fall into a gap between pediatric and adult care systems, leaving their unique needs underrepresented in research and treatment. The Chike Springer Foundation is dedicated to changing this narrative by supporting innovative projects like Dr. DuVall’s, which focuses on optimizing app-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address the mental health and social challenges faced by AYAs with lymphoma.

By leveraging technology and patient-reported outcomes, Dr. DuVall’s research represents a vital step toward closing these gaps. His work ensures that care is not only accessible but also tailored to the lived experiences of young people battling lymphoma, ultimately improving their quality of life during and after treatment.

At the Chike Springer Foundation, we strive to amplify patient voices, fund groundbreaking research, and advocate for health equity across all communities disproportionately impacted by cancer. Supporting scholars like Dr. DuVall reflects our commitment to driving innovative, patient-centered solutions that make a real difference. Together, we are working to create a future where no community is left behind in the fight against lymphoma.

Celebrating Our First Scholar: Dr. Luis Malpica

Dr. DuVall joins an inspiring legacy of scholars supported by the Chike Springer Foundation. Our first scholar, Dr. Luis Malpica, exemplifies the transformative impact of the LSRMP program.

Dr. Malpica’s research focuses on evaluating the clinical, genetic, and treatment factors influencing lymphoma outcomes in Latin America, a region with significant health disparities. Since becoming the Chike Springer Legacy Scholar, Dr. Malpica has secured nearly $1 million in grant funding and presented his findings at the prestigious American Society of Hematology (ASH). His work continues to influence global conversations about equitable lymphoma care.

Building a Future of Hope and Impact

The addition of Dr. DuVall to our network of scholars reinforces our commitment to improving lymphoma outcomes for patients worldwide. Through innovative research, strategic partnerships, and a relentless focus on equity, the Chike Springer Foundation is making strides toward a future where every lymphoma patient receives care that prioritizes their voice, their quality of life, and their unique needs.

Together, we can turn research into results and hope into action. Stay tuned for more updates on Dr. DuVall’s work and the ongoing impact of the Chike Springer Foundation.
