Chike’s Legacy

Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, Patriot, Hero!!!!!

The above few words only begin to scratch the surface of who Chike Springer was. Chike was born on a cold December day in 1990 to his mother Gloria Springer and his late father Oliver Springer. He was loved and admired instantly, first by his two older brothers, Jelani and Adwin Springer, and then by everyone else who came in contact with him. We all vowed to protect and shower Chike with our love as he was our special gift. We knew, that in due time, he would also become the world’s gift and go on to impact and influence people everywhere he went. Chike grew up in a loving household, a place that was filled with hard work, love, and commitment.

Chike would go on to utilize the traits he learned to excel in academics, sports, and the arts. Chike shared the family's love for baseball, which he played as a child and then at the collegiate level. During his studies and athletics at University, he met the love of his life and married his wonderful wife, Lyndsay. Together they would move to Alaska to continue their personal growth as they served in the U.S. Army.

Chike’s patriotism continued as he and Lyndsay moved to Washington D.C., where Chike would go on to serve as a staff member for a U.S. Senator. When the opportunity arose, Chike used his experience in the Army to serve with distinction. He used his quiet yet commanding presence to assist the Military and Veterans Affairs team through many successful initiatives.

Chike left the Senate in April 2019 to start a new journey, one where he would continue to help people as a surgeon; he was enrolled in medical studies when the family received the news that he was about to begin a battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

For one whole year after his diagnosis, Chike got up and showed up daily, ready to fight his battle with cancer. He did so with a smile on his face, never complaining, and with his faith intact. He fought hard and vigorously, day after day, showing everyone around him what perseverance looked like.

During his treatment, Chike was adamant about giving back and contributing to the cure for lymphoma. He frequently talked about starting a non-profit. The Chike Springer Foundation was created in honor of the late Chike Springer. We are determined to learn from Chike’s battle with cancer and to help others who are fighting a similar battle.

For those already dealing with this aggressive disease, we hope our experiences can help to empower them. Chike believed that the only way we could reach the goal of curing lymphoma was to get as many people with different perspectives and different ways of thinking on board. He dreamed of a passionate team consisting of patients, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, and students. He thought beyond his disease but used his own experience to guide him. He wanted to make a difference and give more people the opportunity to achieve their dreams and full potential.

Chike’s inspiring fight against a disease that was ravishing his body will never be forgotten. In that year, he still managed to be the best Husband, the best Son, the best Brother, the best Uncle, a Patriot, and a HERO!!! Chike leaves behind a legacy of charity, integrity, and honor. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten as his family will immortalize his memory and continue his work through this foundation.

Thank You, Chike for loving at all costs and in any circumstance.

Chike leaves behind a legacy of charity, integrity, and honor.
